Appendix 2: How SDF helped Chapters?
1. CHI Down Under Melbourne 2021:
The Melbourne chapter organized this event with the support of the SDF, promoting knowledge exchange and strengthening the HCI community by bringing researchers and practitioners together.
2. Interactive Experiences Exhibition at CHItaly 2021:
The Italian SIGCHI Chapter utilized SDF funding to organize this hybrid exhibition, showcasing innovative prototypes and installations. The fund helped cover the needs that arose in the hybrid setting, ensuring an inclusive and engaging experience for participants.
3. Sustaining and Expanding the HCI Community in Srishti Institute and Bangalore:
The Srishti SIGCHI Chapter utilised SDF funds to organize virtual events, including web series and book club meets, which attracted active participation from the student community in Bangalore. To continue these initiatives and expand their reach in 2021–2022, the chapter plans to use SIGCHI funds for hosting virtual events on Zoom, enhancing their social media presence on Zoho social, and launching a podcast focusing on design, technology, HCI, and human-centered design topics.
These examples highlight how the SDF plays a vital role in supporting chapters, enabling them to host impactful events, foster collaboration, and promote innovation in the field of HCI. Through financial assistance and resources, the SDF empowers chapters to create meaningful experiences and contribute to the growth of the SIGCHI community.
